Why Claims Are Where the Promise Becomes Real

Insurance is unusual.

People can pay for it for years and hope they never have to use it.

They're buying a promise.

A promise that if something happens...

There's protection behind them.

And then one day, something happens.

That's when the promise becomes real.

A Claim Isn’t Routine to the Customer

Maybe your team has handled hundreds of claims.

Your customer hasn't.

To us, it may be another claim notification.

To them, it could be the worst thing that's happened all year.

Their car is wrecked.

Their roof is damaged.

Their home has flooded.

Their business can't operate.

They're scared.

They're frustrated.

They don't know what happens next.

That's when they need us differently.

This Is Where Relationships Matter

Claims are why I believe so strongly in running offense instead of defense.

Don't disappear because a claim has been filed.

Educate.

Set expectations.

Follow up.

Help customers understand the process.

Be present.

We may not control every part of what happens next.

But we absolutely control how we show up.

The Why Behind the What

So why do we follow up on claims?

Why do we explain the process before customers ask?

Why do we check in when there may be nothing new to report?

Because this is the moment the promise becomes real.

Customers may forget the quote.

They may forget the application.

They may even forget what they paid last year.

But they'll remember how they were treated when something went wrong.

That's the why behind the what.
